What fun we had styling this Baltimore area birthday party for little Jayla! When we were tasked with creating a Superhero theme that didn’t rely on the usual licensed characters that you see in so many party, we rose to the occasion and had a blast doing so! This adorable party was thrown outside on the backyard deck in the beautiful suburb of Columbia, MD located about 15-20 miles north of Washington, DC and south of Baltimore. While there were scattered showers during the party, we moved between the house and the deck. We decided that we would make use of interjections, such as, POW, BAM, ZAP, etc to incorporate the superhero aspect. The use of the cityscape backdrop and the “building” cupcake holder were fabulous additions to the party! Talk about adding a wow factor! We wanted to use an array of colors that reflected Jayla’s girly style and yet that wasn’t overly girly. The dominant colors were pink, turquoise, white yellow and black and white polk dot as an accent color. There was some purple used as well but not much. I have to admit that this color scheme is one of my favorite. There was a lot of customization in this party theme. From the superhero caricature that we had designed of Jayla, to the chip bags, to her shirt that adorned the Super J logo to the adorable picture frame and the plates! Yes, the plates! Our fabulous graphic designer designed vinyl superhero themed decals that we added to the bottom (underneath) of the plates, keeping the plates food safe. We decided on a simply menu of Wonder Dogs, ‘Pop’corn, “Crunch” chips, and soda. There was also an array of candy along with delicious cupcakes and a Superhero themed drip cake. It’s easy to pat yourself on the back for a job well done but we know that the real testament of how well we did comes from the guest-of-honor’s reaction and boy was she pleased!
