Hey glam’friends! I hope you are having a fabulous hump day!!! I wanted to take a minute to talk to you about why it’s important to have a rain plan! You know I want the best for you and your special day, right? Of course you know this…..so please take a minute to read and heed!
I recently had the pleasure of working with a wonderful couple who held their wedding at the museum where I work. I was excited about this wedding because as you will soon learn, if you don’t already know, I LOVE a theme! Their theme was a carnival theme. Their engagement photos were shot at a carnival and were amazing!!! So as you can imagine, at least part of their wedding day festivities were taking place outside. The plan was that their ceremony would be outside in one of the venue’s outside rental spaces, the reception would be in the ballroom and there would be popcorn, cotton candy, and caricature vendors along with games, etc in another outside rental space.
Well guess what happened? Yep, you guessed it! It rained!! OF COURSE IT RAINED! The issue is that the venue didn’t have a rain plan for the ceremony or any of the other activities that were to take place outside because the one large space that they do have is the ballroom and that was being used for the reception. The couple and their planner were made aware of this prior to signing their contract. Nonetheless, you can imagine the stress this placed on the couple, their wedding planner and the venue.
While it all worked out in the end with a collaborative effort of all involved, their overall theme was compromised. Due to it raining, all activities that were planned outside, were moved inside. The venue had to get really creative and this was a challenge because the venue is a museum with many restrictions due to the valuable objects that are housed. Unfortunately, it greatly affected the overall theme and feel that the couple was going for.
Glam’friends, when you are choosing a venue for your outside event, please keep in mind to go with a venue that has an AVAILABLE inside space that they will put on hold should it rain on the day of your event. This will save you a lot of stress and money! Imagine if you have to use the same inside space where your reception is to be held, for your ceremony (as the couple above had to do). This means that staff will have to flip that room. If it’s the catering staff that has to flip the room, this will mean the caterer will have to schedule extra staff which means extra money. A lot of extra money. Who wants to have to come up with extra money out of an already tight budget????
I say all of this to say, while I know how it is to fall in love with a venue, you must also be practical and consider all scenarios. You can’t just assume it won’t rain. It’s better to be safe than sorry. Don’t run the risk of compromising your event because you failed to consider all scenarios both best and worst!
‘Til next time Glam’friends!
